Mount Fuji is one of the few volcanoes made of basalt. It began to erupt about 10,000 years ago.
Approximately 100,000 years ago, the “OLD FUJI” was formed over the top of the Komitake Fuj. The modern “NEW FUJI”. Today is a current beautiful cone shaped volcano.  In 1707 Mount Fuji created the Hoei Crater and formed a huge volcanic ash field on the east side.
